Rural dreams comes true with LEADER funding
LEADER’s Will Dallimore takes to Mix96 to explain all about the grants available to rural businesses across the county.
Buckinghamshire Business First radio show had a distinctly rural theme in May as the spotlight was shone on the LEADER grant programme.
Will explained to listeners what the application process for a grant is like and how the LEADER team will help people navigate it, as well as the types of projects that can be funded.
Lorna Brooks of Fullers Flowers is a previous grant recipient and also appeared on the show to talk about how LEADER funding helped her business. Fullers Flowers received a £15,000 grant and were able to build a new workshop, purchase a new delivery van, upgrade their website, grow and sell their own flowers and create a job. As a result they have seen our profits increase year-on-year. That’s some outcome!
So, if you are wondering if LEADER grant funding is the right thing for your business, listen to the podcast now and hear the great information and advice on offer from Will and Lorna.
What can LEADER do for your business?
The LEADER Programme delivers £50,000 grants to rural businesses in the Chilterns and Clay Vales areas of Buckinghamshire, as well £100,000 grants in North and West Northamptonshire.
Along with a focus on creating jobs in rural areas and supporting growth of rural businesses, LEADER has six core priority areas for funding. To be successful for funding, projects must contribute to one or more of LEADER’s six national priority areas, which are:
- Support for Increased Farm Productivity
- Support for Micro and Small Enterprises and Farm Diversification
- Support for Rural Tourism
- Support for provision of Rural Services
- Support for Increasing Forestry Productivity
- Support for Cultural and Heritage Activity
Take-up on previous LEADER grants has been very positive and there have already been a steady stream of applications under this current round of funding. There is a set allocation of grants to be handed out so don’t delay in applying.
What can the LEADER team do for you?
Along with Will, the rest of the LEADER team will work with each and every applicant to ensure their application stands the best chance of success for when it goes to the Local Action Group, the board that makes the final decisions on whether to hand out a grant.
Once approved, they will also monitor the project and offer support to grant applicants until the project comes to a conclusion.
