LEADER Programme

LEADER Programme

LEADER funding provides support to farmers, foresters, rural businesses and communities with grants aimed at creating jobs, helping businesses to grow and benefiting the rural community.

Value: £5.1 million

Funders:

The projects will run between 2015 to 2020.
LEADER funding is part of the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE), with the money coming via the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA).

Partners:

  • Clay Vales Local Action Group
  • Chilterns Local Action Group
  • North & West Northamptonshire Local Action Group

Approach:

All three LEADER programmes are designed to promote business growth and stimulate job creation, particularly amongst micro and small businesses. They are focused on rural areas and their priorities are: supporting small and medium rural businesses; farm diversification projects; forestry projects; tourism projects; rural services; and cultural and heritage projects.

These three areas have significant rural economies and the LEADER Programme will support activity that helps businesses grow, drawing on the unique characteristics of each area, while promoting the sustainable management of natural resources like woodlands.

Case Studies:

EJ Lacey & Sons – dairy farming
Lower Gade Farm – firewood
Parslow Apiaries – beekeeping
